Robert Chambers papers, [1827-1836?].

Consists of 6 engraved portraits of Sir Walter Scott and a copy of a letter, in Scott's autograph, from Prince Charles Edward Stuart to Mr. McPherson of Clunie (Ewen Macpherson of Cluny, d. 1764, chief of the Clan Macpherson), dated 8 Sept. 1746 (a mis-transcription for "18" in the original). Written the day before the Prince escaped to France, the Prince acknowledges the sacrifices of Macpherson and his clan during the rebellion and promises future compensation "when it shall please God"; date (1827) and attestation, signed by Chambers, on integral second leaf.
